Removing file names that are stored in open file box?

When you use open/file and then type in the file name it is stored in a
drop-down list. How do you clear this list?

you need to look within the windows registry editor...
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\<version>\Common\Open Fnd\Microsoft <Office> Excel\Settings\Open\File Name MRU
