I am running Outlook 2003 under Windows XP. I have several sub-folders under
the "Contacts" folder. Occasionally I find it necessary to delete one or more
of these folders. The deletion appears to have worked find on the Contacts
screen. The deleted name is gone from the list. But when I am creating a new
email, and click on "To" button in order to select an email address, in the
"Show Names from the" drop down menu, the deleted name is still on the list.
Can anyone tell me how to completely delete these "ghost" folders short of
completely removing Outlook 2003 from my PC and reinstalling it?

Thanks for any help.

Try this:

Open Outlook
Select the TOOLS menu
Select ADDRESS BOOK
Select the TOOLS menu from the Address book window
Select OPTIONS
If you see the offending file in the list, hi-lite it and click the REMOVE
button.

Won't work. That only stops the folder from being checked for
autoresolution.
You have to remove the outdated reference to a folder here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change.
