Removing and reinstalling notepad

I need remove and then reinstall notepad.exe (damaged by virus). How to
do this?

I know of no way to do so directly, unless it's a simple matter of
copying notepad.exe from a clean installation. The System File Checker
should be able to replace the file, though, if it truly is damaged:

Start > Run > "SFC /Scannow"

However, I can't imagine why a virus would ever have been written for
such a purpose. Why do you think Notepad was attacked by a virus? Are
you confident that you've already eliminated the virus to preclude a
recurrence of the problem.

From information by MVP Patti McLeod:

1) See if you have a copy of Notepad.exe in C:\Windows\System32 or C
\Windows\ServicePackFiles\I386 and if so, copy the file to C:\Windows;

2) Expand a copy of notepad.exe to C:\Windows\System32 by doing the
following:

Have the XP install CD in the CDROM drive. Go to Start>Run and type "cmd"
without the quotes, Enter.

In the command prompt window, type:

expand X:\i386\notepad.ex_ c:\Windows\System32\notepad.exe (where you will
replace the X with the actual drive letter designation for your
CDROM drive) Then press Enter.

3)Exit the command prompt window by typing "exit", then press Enter.
