Hello. I have a server for a home network running windows
2000 server and Active Directory was installed. I do not
need it, and it is jsut complicatiing things, so is there
a way to remove Active Directory from this server? Any
help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm sorry, i do not know what |"dcpromo" is or what you
are even talking about... could you put it in idiots terms
for me? Thanks.

dcpromo.exe is the executable that launches the Active Directory
Installation Wizard. This is what creates and removes DCs.

As you have a DC, you need to demote it back to normal server. Do this by
running dcpromo from the start menu and following the instructions
thereafter

You should be ok by typing in "dcpromo" at the Run menu
and sticking with next next next.

Unless he needs to FORCE the removal, which is commony
a case when one has been removing DCs.

DCPromo /forcedremoval (and understand this THROWS
AWAY the domain if this the LAST DC.)
