Active Directories and Win2k Pro (not server)

Hello All,

Sorry to be a pain here, and starting a new thread on a similar topic, but I
fear my topic below may be missed over as I've replied to myself.

I have a machine with Windows 2000 Pro on it (not server), and I was hoping
to use Active Directories as there is 3rd party software for managing and
deploying software on networked machines, and it needs Active Directories.

I've searched and searched, and I'm generally coming to the conclusion that
Active Directories can only be used with Windows 2000 Server (or newer
versions).

Now as I only use my little network at home, I can't justify spending money
on a new OS for my server machine (I call it my server machine, as all my
most accessed programs I install etc, and digital camera pictures,
tortoisesvn, mp3's, etc are all on there).

Is there a work around to getting Active Directories working on Win2k Pro?
or even a 3rd party program that emulates it, or can it not be emulated?

I hope someone can help me with this problem, or at least point me in the
right direction as I would really like to use this piece of free software I
downloaded, but I can't seem to use it as AD doesn't appear to be available
to me?

Regards
Paul.

You must run a Windows Server product (2000 or 2003) to have the ability to
use Active Directory. You can use other LDAP directories, but they are not
"Active Directory" and they would likely require a server OS anyways.
