How do you remove the Windows XP search box to the left of the icon tray?
It takes up valuable real estate, and I don't use it. I can find no where
in search how to remove it.

It sounds as if you have Windows Desktop Search installed on
your computer. If you want to remove the program entirely, go
to Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs and look for Windows
Desktop Search in the list of installed programs. Hit the
Remove button.

If you wish to keep Windows Desktop Search but remove the
Search box from your Taskbar, do the following.

Right click an open spot on your Taskbar at the bottom of the
screen.
In the menu that pops up, move your mouse pointer up to
Toolbars.
In the menu that pops out, is there a check mark next to
"Windows Search Deskbar"?
If so, click on it to remove the check mark.

Good luck
