Remove unwanted directory

Can somebody show me how to delete a directory in y hard
disk whereby everytime I try to delete gives a message
ACCESS DENIED. This use to be a windows xp directory
before I installaed a new windows xp leaving the old one
existant. Now I would like to clean the hard disk with
unwanted directory.
