Remove the "create your drawing here." pop up/box

I'd like to eliminate the "create your drawing here." box when I choose a
drawing tool.

Word didn't use to create a box when you selected a drawing tool, which
almost occupies the entire page.

Can this be turned off?
 
Tools - Options - General, remove the check next to Automatically create
drawing canvas..."
