remove the blank lines

I have a document which has lots of blank lines. I want to know if there is
any feature or function which can remove all the blank lines and brings the
text together??

If the blank lines are because of the way the paragraphs are formatted, you
can select all paragraphs, and change the formatting for all at once, set
line spacing to "auto" and reduce space after paragraph and space before
paragraph.

If blank lines are because of hitting "enter" twice after each paragraph,
you can go to edit/replace and replace ^p^p with ^p

Do this as often as you need to do so (you can also undo if you go too far).

Thanx Michelle it was helpful it reduced the lines but still I have lots of
lines and those are being removed one by one and it aint helping me anymore
and I have lots of empty lines which I want to remove and they are randomly
spread in the document

The blank lines are not due to the paragraph spacing it is due to the enter
pressed

There is a feature in replace that is "replace all" so you can do a bunch at
once, rather than one at a time.

It also could be that there are multiple spaces or tabs in the document. If
you go to tools/options/view/formatting marks and check "all", you should be
able to see what is causing the spaces. Spaces look like dots, and tabs like
sideways arrows, and new lines like down arrows. You can replace four spaces
with one, tabs with single spaces, etc.

Again, Replace All will work much faster, and you can always undo if it goes
too far.

actually its due to the carriage returns (by pressing enter)
they are random. Some lines are separated by single blank line some by two,
some by three and so on till max 8 blank lines

OK I tell u the complete scenario actually I had a document with some
useless data I replaced that data with spaces for many lines one by one. Now
I have blank lines with just one, two or three spaces, I want to remove these
blank lines now

edit/replace <space>^p with ^p
where <space> is not written out. Replace All until you receive the message
"0 replacements made. Then you can edit/replace ^p^p with ^p
Again replace all until you have deleted all extra lines. If you want one
extra space between paragraphs, do it by formatting the paragraphs.

You're welcome. It comes from having used Word since it was just plain
MSWord, 20 some years ago. They used to have owner's guides that answered
all those questions, and those old methods (most of them, anyway) still work.
