I would like to remove the shutdown option from the shut down menu
i dont mean the start menu or the windows security menu that come up when
you press ctrl+alt+Del or the login menu
i just want to romove it from the shutdown menu that you get after you press
Start | Shutdown
you then get the options "Log off","Shutdown","Restart","Standby"
i only want to remove Shutdown

You can do that with Group Policy. It is a user configuration which means
that the users you want it to apply to must be within the scope of influence
of the GPO. Look under user configuration/administrative templates/start
menu&task bar. Enable the option for disable and remove shutdown
ommand. --- Steve

The only other thing I can think of is to modify the user right for system
shutdown in the appropriate security policy either local/domain/OU. Go to
security settings/local policies/user rights and modify the groups that are
included for "shut down the system" . For non domain controllers, you could
configure in Local Security Policy or at the domain/OU level for groups of
"computers". After a policy refresh the "effective" setting in Local
Security Policy needs to reflect the change. --- Steve
