Remove program in "ADD/Remove Programs

how do I remove a certain program from the "ADD/Remove Programs".

I tried uninstalling a program from the list. however, it is prompting me to
locate the installation file which i dont have.

If I try to overwrite it with a newer version, it states that there is a
program installed and i have to remove it first.. kinda catch 22.

Also, the program is not located in my c:\program files directory anymore

If the program folder has been removed, it is probably a case of the program having been
uninstalled, but the listing being an orphan in the Add or Remove Programs list. To
remove orphan listings in that list:

Click: Start button, click: Run, type: regedit and click the OK button. When the Registry
Editor opens, find the Key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Then click the + to the left of that Key to find the folder with the orphan program name,
right click on it, then left click Delete on the context menu. Then reboot your system
and the orphan entry in Add or Remove Programs should be gone.

If you have not used Regedit before, it would be a good idea to open System Restore
(Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore), and create a Restore Point
BEFORE editing the registry. That way, if you make a mistake editing the registry, you
can use System Restore and quickly restore back to Restore Point you created.
