Return to windows update, do a custom scan and install any updates to the
..Net that you have installed. If that doesn't do it here are two ways to
set up an automatic login, either manually or using TweakUI. By the way
finding out this info is pretty easy. You got it here is a few minutes or
you could have gotten it from a Google search in a couple of seconds:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=auto+login+windows+xp

Here's the info:

1. Go to Start | Run and type in: control userpasswords2 | Ok.

2. On the Users tab, clear the Users Must Enter A User Name And Password To
Use This Computer check box and then click OK.

3. In the Automatically Log On dialog box that appears, type the user name
and password for the account you want to be logged on each time you start
your computer.

You can accomplish the same thing by:

Download and install TweakUI for XP and use its auto logon feature.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Lastly you can add the Dialog box that comes up when running control
userpasswords2 to the Control Panel with the following tweak:

Add Control User Passwords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)

hi,

why couldn't i find userpasswords2 in control panel?

Because it's not there on a default install. I included a link to an edit
on Kelly's site to add it if you want.

OK what happened is that a login screen appeared and it claimed it failed
and back to the old welcome login screen again.

It didn't work.
What I want is to just turn it on and boot up with NO login screens at all.

Sorry but I don't understand your post. What does "a login screen appeared
and it claimed it failed
and back to the old welcome login screen again." mean? Realize we can't
see your computers so you need to be precise in your description of what you
did and what happens.

Have you tried a TweakUI? Is this XP Home or Pro? How many accounts and
are passwords assigned?

If I uncheck the Users must enter a name ... on userpassords2 I am asked for
a password for adminstrator whci I enter in nothing. When i boot up again I
get a error message which I forget exactly because i am not doing it again.
Recently it just doesn't boot up at all and hangs!

I have 4 accounts and I do need to click on 'myname' account to get it to
work as before.
I have administrator, myname, aspnet, guest in the list of usernames..

I need uncheck the Users must enter a name ... box and set what login to
what passowrd exactly . I have winxp sp2 and i am the only user so of course
i don't want any login .

Just checking the auto login for tweakUI does nothing other than I get the
same error message or it doesn't boot at all.

Now I didn't mess this up i just followed instructions and now i am getting
a bad situation of failing to boot. I need EXACT instructions as this is
obviously not simple and my PC is CLEAN of viruses/mamlware etc.

Will it start in safe mode?
