remove hot fix kb828741

A

Ann

I'm trying to reinstall Norton Internet Security 2004.
during installation it says "AntiVirus has encountered an
internal program error"

Norton says I need to remove hot fix kb828741 in order to
install norton internet security 2004.

Norton says this is what needs to be done in order to
successfully install.

I can not remove kb828741 via "add remove software" that
option is not available.

I do not have the spuninst.exe for that hotfix.

Microsoft says contact manufacturer, That would be Dell.
They say "contact Microsoft". I can't contact them
because Windows XP is OEM software and they don't give a
rats rearend *even though it's their stupid patch that's
causing the issue*

I just need to get the stupid thing out long enough to
install nis 2004 then reinstall it.

I've looked for the uninstaller for that hotfix. It's
just not there.

I've searched microsoft for a solution, I've searched
norton for a solution, they say uninstall the hotfix, I
can't.. help.. LOL.. I hole out little hope for this, but
here you are, so there you are <G>

Ann,

Do you have the backup folder for this particular hotfix?

C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB828741$

This will be a hidden folder, so you may need to adjust your folder options. Of course, if Windows is installed somewhere other than C or in the Windows folder, adjust the path above accordingly.

If necessary download and install the Hotfix, then remove it.

Its possible that you never had it installed, Ann. The same "fix" may have been incorporated into a later fix, that was applied. Installing it does create an entry in Add/Remove Programs.

Ann..

ok, that confused me <not hard to do>

I do have that hotfix, kb828741 installed on my
computer.. it's in the list of programs and software
under add and remove in the control panel.. (no remove
option available)

I've got several, three I think, hotfixes that have no
removal option under add and remove programs and don't
seem to have the uninstaller.. so, let me be clear
because, trust me, I'm more than capable of shooting
myself in the foot, I may not have the uninstaller
because the hotfix was installed as part of a later fix??

sooooOOooo.. if I install it via the specific hotfix
download I should get the uninstaller??

god, a mac looks good.. LOL.. you know, I used to be able
to sort of keep up.. now xp is much better at a lot of
things.. but I miss my old 98se <whimper :p)

I'm sorry, I didn't see part of your reply.. scroll
right, I didn't.. LOL.. sorry..

so when I feel brave I'll go ahead and install it then I
can remove it so I can reinstall it after I've installed
Norton's newer software..

LOL.. oh, yes, life used to be simple.. and these things
are supposed to make it better?? LOL.. sorry.. hysteria
is setting in <G> Norton is totally unconcerned about XP,
what do they care?? they've got your money.. Microsoft
makes patches faster than rabbits make bunnies and Norton
just throws up their hands.. consumer, fix it thyself!!
LOL..

Oh, by the way, I've bookmarked your website.. sorry,
you'll not be rid of me easily <G>

Ann,

The backup folder for the hotfix is hidden, so you may need to adjust your Folder Options to enable hidden files and folders to be seen in Explorer and others. If you have the particular hotfix installed, then you should have the

C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB828741$\spuninst

folder, and its contents as well.

I've been around this before <gg>.

I do have the hotfix installed. It shows
under "add/remove programs" in the control panel. The
remove program option is not there.

I have my folders set to show hidden files and folders.

I see other spuninst files for other hotfixes but not for
this particular one.

I have looked manually and also done a search for the
file/folder checking the option "search in hidden files
and folders".

It's just not there.

Trust me <G> I wish it were but it's not.

Any ideas??

install again and pray??
