Remove Grabitfast.net as default search engine

R

Roy Alston

Hello,

For reasons I can't explain, my default search engine is
now http://www.grabitfast.net. If I try to do a search
using MSN, Yahoo, Google, etc., the Grabitfast.net search
page ALWAYS appears. This was done without my consent.
Does anyone know how to remove it?

Thanks,

Roy

Check out the following to get rid of your problem.

Get this file:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/RestoreSearch2.REG
After downloading it, right click it and choose Merge.

Download/run Cool Web Shredder from:
http://www.merijn.org/

For Info on Cool Web Search Variants:
http://www.merijn.org/cwschronicles.html

Download/install/run Ad-Aware from:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
This will detect any spyware on your system. When you run Ad-Aware, click on
the ref update to get the latest up-to-date ref file, run Ad-Aware and
delete everything it finds.

If you are more advanced, then download/install/run:
Spybot - Search & Destroy from :
http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download

If you still have problems, download/run HijackThis from:
http://www.merijn.org/
Be very careful with this program though. Do not remove anything that is
referenced by it until you get advice on what to remove as it will list some
good items as well as bad ones.
See http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/#quick and read the quick start on how to
create a log file that can be sent to a forum that can provide assistance on
removal of unwanted problems.
Post the logs to an appropriate NG here where they specialize in
spyware/hijacker removal:

Hope this helps,

Martin

My pleasure. It is always nice to know that the information helped. Most
people don't bother to reply back again unless they have another problem.

I don't know if you stopped at the first registry update (the REG file) or
if you carried on to other downloads or not. At the very least, you should
have the Ad Aware program so that you can scan for scum ware on your PC.

Martin,

The first REG file didn't change anything, at least that I
could tell. (I still had the grabitfast as the search
engine.) However, the second file you suggested, Cool Web
Shredder, did the trick (at least, it appears to have done
the trick). I also took your advice and got the AdAware
program. It is so frustrating that there are people out
there who are doing this malicious things!

I cannot tell you enough how much I appreciate your
kindness in helping me!

Best wishes,

Roy
