Unable to Change Default Search Engine

Jay

This weekend I went to change my default search engine, which happened
to be Google for both the search pane and the address bar, to another
search engine. I opened the Search pane, and clicked on Customize. The
Customize Search Settings pane came up, with the message, Loading
Search Settings. The pane just sat there, and the settings never
loaded, even after several minutes waiting time. Needless to say, I was
unable to change the default search engine.

I am using Windows XP Home Edition and IE 6.0. The same problem
appeared on all three home machines, and when I got to work today, I
checked the machines at work, and the same problem occurred with three
other machines, including two running Windows 2000 Professional.

Anyone else having this problem, or know of a way to change my default
search engine?

Hi Jay,

Microsoft have been doing some maintenance on the search assistant in the
past few weeks(see previous posts). Also v7 of Internet Explorer does not
have a search assistant or search button so the future of the search
assistant is unknown.

I have created some replacement Search Explorer Bars for the US search
providers at

http://www.iecustomizer.com/USENEBarsDownload.htm

Search buttons for the Buttons toolbar can be found on the bottom of

http://www.iecustomizer.com/IEButtonsDownload.htm

SearchURLs and SearchScopes from

http://www.iecustomizer.com/iesearchdownload.htm

Regards.
