Remove files from windows installer directory

Hi

I have a heck of a lot of stuff on my notebook but it only has 80gig of HDD,
12 gig of which is reserved for the HP backup thingy.

I noticed that the windows\installer folder has more than 0.5 gig of stuff
there and I would like to clean some things off my computer. Is it OK to
delete these things - I did a test run - and some of my icons disappeared.

What is safe to delete and what should be kept - how can i know??

Thanks

Doug

I leave the installer stuff alone. Some programs do "self healing" via the
MS installer. A program checks itself at launch (against what's in the
installer folder) and if all is not right, it will either repair from a
local depository or prompt for the program CD.

Better places to look to regain space:

Multimedia files: These are relatively large. Move older ones that you no
longer glance at to other media - an external hard drive or burn to DVD or
CD.

Programs that you don't use.

PC Games: I love those big fancy PC games but since they take up sooo much
space (the game and the saved files), I uninstall when I've finished with
them. If I get in the mood to play again, I just reinstall them.
