Remove extraneous reviewer?

I have a document I am reviewing that somehow, at a time I had a document open from another, totally unconnected person, captured this person as a reviewer and will NOT let it go! Everything I can find from MS online help (hah hah) says that when I close word, any reviewers not actually connected to the document should disappear. But this has not happened, even though this person has never seen, opened, or had any connection to this particular document he continues to appear as a reviewer. I have tried deleting all temporary files, saving the file with track changes on and off, viewing only changes attributed to him (and then accepting or rejecting them, but there aren't any to reject or accept), closing word and rebooting, etc

NOTHING WORKS! Where is this information about reviewers embedded and how can I access it directly to delete this person's name? The people I am working with on this document won't know him from Adam, and while it isn't critical it is REALLY bugging me

Help most gratefully appreciated...I'm using Word 2002

Cheers

Hi Lelani

This can be a really annoying problem, and it can be tricky to track down.
But it is possible!

First, if you have Word 2002, make sure you have updated your version of
Office at http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/default.aspx?CTT=98. I
seem to remember that some of these problems were solved by one of the
service packs.

Second, if your odd reviewer happens to be named Allan Stratton, then you're
a victim of an add-in for Word from Scansoft. It seems that Mr Stratton is a
(now infamous<g>) ex-employee of Scansoft. You may have acquired the add-in
when you got a scanner or printer. See
http://www.google.com.au/groups?num...ratton+reviewer+group:microsoft.public.word.*,
and follow step (b) below.

Third (and more likely) is that your strange reviewer was the reviewer of an
un-accepted tracked change in either (a) the template on which your document
was based, (b) an add-in or (c) normal.dot.

So, (a) use Tools > Templates and Add-ins to find out what template the
document is based on. Use File > Open to open that template (make sure the
blue bar at the top of Word gives the name of the template and not, say,
Document 1). And accept any changes in the template.

For (b), use Tools > Templates and Add-ins. Un-tick any add-ins listed one
by one until you find out which is the culprint.

For (c), use File > Open to open normal.dot and proceed as for (a).

Hope this helps.

Hi Shauna

Thanks for all the advice. I tried all of it - updated Office XP, checked the template for the document I'm having the problem with (it was normal.dot), opened normal.dot but it had no tracked changes, and there are NO other add-ins connected to this document. Meanwhile, my extraneous reviewer (who is someone I know, and work with on OTHER things, just not this particular document) remains

When I view the document in hex I can find his name embedded somewhere near the end, but I can't get rid of it

Any other ideas

Thanks for your help

Hi =?Utf-8?B?TGVsYW5p?=,
When I view the document in hex I can find his name embedded somewhere near the end, but I can't get rid of it.
Try saving the document as HTML (a webpage). Open this as plain text and search for the
name. You should be able to delete it, save, open as an HTML file and save back to a Word
document...
