Remove CHILD Domain

What is the proper procedure for REMOVING a child domain
from a forest? Anything special, or just demote the DC
via DCPROMO? This is an empty child domain except for
the DC.

Demote each of the DCs from the child domain using DCPromo until you
remove the last DC.

If done while still online and the Domain Naming Master is available, the
child domain will be properly cleaned out of the Forest.

The alternative is hand work (easy but tedious) using NTDSUtil.

KEY: The Domain Naming Master controls the addition AND removal of
domains from the Forest.
 
Thanks for the info. Hope it goes well automatically so
I dont have to do the manual process. Will be sure to
select the LAST DC box to help with the transition of
removing the domain from our forest.
 
One more thing: It is probably easiest if you make sure the current
Domain Role Holder (PDC emulator, RID, Infrastructure master)
is LAST.
