Remove background from Contemporary Letter template

Is there a way to remove the gray shaded areas and the globe from a
Contemporary Letter template? I have tried backgrounds, shading, watermarks,
etc. and can't remove them.

Try this: Open the Contemporary Letter Template. Menu bar: View-->Header and
Footer. Right click globe and click cut. Turn on Picture Toolbar if you want
to work with other options.

Choose View | Header and Footer. You will then be able to select and delete
these graphics.
