I have removed Windows Defender Beta 2 and reinstalled it many times but I
always receive the same signature:
1.0.0.0. built 25/01/2006 and can never upgrade tp the latest version.
Again although I have an icon with exclamation mark to update - I update but
the icon remains there and when I open it I always have:
Windows Defender Definitons haven't been updated in 47 days. -
I click on Update but though it says that my definitions and engine are up
to date, still I am seeing the same icon asking me to update.
How can I update engine and definitions.

Whilst I hope that the 915105 solution works for Blasius It certainly does
not work for me. Moreover I have tried all the solutions set out on this
Board, Announce and General and I am still left with the identical problem.
What is needed is a new Beta 2 build that will install and update properly
for the whole gamut of Defender Beta testers not just some lucky ones.
In the meantime,as I cannot get Beta 2 to a working state, I have gone back
to Beta1. It has so many advantages over Beta 2 I wonder why I left it in
the first place. On my computers Beta 2 takes more than six times as long as
Beta1 to run a full scan. It virtually stalls when it comes to a folder of
JPGs. What on earth is going on?

Please go to Windows Update and do a custom scan. Windows Defender
definitions should be offered there--install them and all other critical
updates offered.

Blasius - I believe some of us are destined to NOT use Defender - I have had
exactly the same problem as you - reinstalled it repeatedly and no solution
will solve the problem for me on either of my two home computers. IF you
ever find a solution that works, please post it. Thanks. I currently have
left Defender off my pc's because the hassle is not worth the end result -
failure.
