Remove AD-Integrated Zone from one server

J

Jean Daniel Keller

Hello everybody

We have a dns-zone which has one domain with several child domains. Until
now all domain controllers had the whole zone configured.

Now we would like to create a delegation for one child domain. The problem
is how to remove the complete zone from the child domain controller.

On our testsystem we tried to switch to standard primary zone. But
unfortunately the other domain controllers would lose the zone when we did
this.

Is there a way to remove the zone from just the one child domain-controller?

Thanks for your answers.

Not sure what you mean by "whole zone configured"? Each domain has it's own
Domain NC. If the parent domain DNS has it's zone AD Integrated, then that
will NOT replicate to the child domain's Domain NC container so therefore,
the parent zone in the child's DNS server cannot be AD Integrated. So I'm
not understanding what you're scenario is.

Actually if you are delegating, you delegate from the parent domain to the
child. You probably do not want to delete the zone on the child domain's DNS
server for the child zone.

Did you try to delete it at the child or the parent DNS? Which zone were you
trying to delete and where at?

As far as deleting anything, need to know more info on what you have. Maybe
just reading this article will help in understanding delegation a little
more. If you already do, please pardon my ignorance and misunderstanding.
