Remote Procedure Call

J

Joe

My computer keeps shutting down, with a one minute
countdown then it restarts the computer. It states
something about the that the "NT System" and a remote
procedure call. If you know why this is happening and
how it can be prevented, please email me or leave a
post.

Joe,
Sorry to inform you that you have contracted a virus.
Update your virus checker and that should take care of the
problem.

Your computer is now infected with the W32.Blaster.Worm or
one of its variants. This happened because you have not
been using an internet connection firewall and have
apparently neglected to install the critical updates
available at the Windows Update website.
-----------------------------------------------------------
-------
If your computer is constantly attempting to shutdown
or reboot, quickly go to:

Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter.
This opens the Command Prompt window.

Then type: shutdown -a , and hit enter.

This should halt the rebooting problem.
-----------------------------------------------------------
-------
Then immediately turn-on Windows XP's built-in Firewall:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/
(To enable the built-in firewall, go to:
Control Panel, double-click Networking and Internet
Connections, then click Network Connections. Right-click
your connection, then
Click Properties, and on the Advanced tab, click the option
"Protect my computer and network..." Note: the built in
firewall only monitors incoming traffic not outgoing (ie
spyware, trojans, etc.. you may have on your system).)

Who Dat

Actually Gary that will not take care of the problem. He
has the Blaster worm or a variation. See the other post
for a good fix.
The antivirus will not remove and and without doing the
other steps it will keep coming back.

Dear Annonymous,

How is this possible when I am using an UPGRADE CD to
install Windows XP. I have PC-Cillin 2002 installed on my
computer and it takes care of any and ALL viruses. I have
checked my system logs and there is no way that I have
contracted the Blaster Worm. My system performs a Real
Time check every 10 minutes and also has a personal
firewall. I am protected. Do you have any other
explainations?
