Remote desktop WinXP -> Vista?

B

Brett

Is it possible to remote desktop from WinXP to Vista? So, bringing up a
Vista desktop on the XP machine. If it does work, what limitations might
there be?

Thanks,
Brett

Yes, It's possible. I'm not aware of any limitations other than what applies
to usual terminal session.

P.S. It was fun to see friendly logon icons inside mstsc seccion first time
I connected to Vista.

Sure, I've done it using my PII - 300 MHz Laptop running XP. Works great.
Limitations seem to be similar to the previous XP, no surprises.
Still don't get clear type on the remote machine, my only feature I would
have liked added.

Hi,

As others have said, yes you can do this. Go to system properties/advanced
system properties and click on the remote tab. Click the option to allow
remote desktop connections from any version of Windows to enable this. Also
check your firewall and ensure remote desktop connections are listed as an
enabled extension.

I want to develop software on the Vista box from the XP box. Do you think
that is possible without ClearType?

Thanks,
Brett

Only problem I have found is that if Vista is a dual monitor setup, then the
resolutions are messed up after return to Vista.

Well, I have dual monitors on the XP machine. I'll put the remote desktop
displaying Vista on one monitor. That should be fine right?

Thanks,
Brett

When you remote from XP to Vista, do you get Aero and 3D Flip? I don't see
these on the XP machine.
