remote desktop web

I want to set up remote desktop web on my XP pro computer at home, then
connect while at work. My problem is that my work computer is behind a
firewall that does not allow port 3389 in or out. Is there a way to set up
remote desktop web on my home computer with out using port 3389?

You need to talk to the IT people at your work. If they don't want port
3389 open, I doubt they will want other ports open. If you have a
pressing need to access your home computer while at work, then maybe
the IT Dept. will allow it and set it up for you.

Hi Roshak,

Thanks for your post.

From your post, you want to know if there is a way to set up remote desktop
web on your home computer without using port 3389.

Based on my experience, the port 3389 can be changed and the following KB
articles describe the main steps:

How to configure the Remote Desktop client to connect to a specific port
when you use Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304304

Hope that helps. If you need any further assistance on this issue, please
feel free to post back.

Thanks & Regards

Hi,

In addition to Malke, you may find that even if you do change the listening
port for this, that your work will not allow you to run the tsweb
application itself. If you have a legitimate need to access your home
system, you should run this by your IT department. Otherwise, you should not
attempt to cirmcumvent their controls, as they are trying to protect the
business network. If they open a port for you, they open it for everyone. A
VPN would be a more appropriate solution, but again there should be a
business need for it.

To change the listening port from 3389, run regedit and look at the
"PortNumber" string under this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal
Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp
