Remote Desktop Puzzle

On my network I have a WinXP machine that has Remote
Desktop enabled. Some other machine runs Win2000, with
Remote Desktop software loaded.

When I follow this path on the Win2000 PC:
Start / Programs / Accessories / Communications / Remote Desktop
and type WinXP (which is the name of the WinXP machine), I am
unable to establish a connection.

However, when I launch Internet Explorer and type this URL:
http://WinXP/tsweb/default.htm
Then I can establish a remote connection.

Why does one work while the other fails?

have you tried not using the machine name but using the ip address
direct to eliminate name resolution as a cause?
