Remote desktop over Satellite?

Hi,
I'm having problems connecting to my computer at work
with remote desktop using a satellite internet service.
My IT guy is able to connect using the same IP address
that I'm using, but he is on a DSL line. Is there an
issue with the latency period that is inherent with
satellites? And, is there anything I can do to correct
for it if there is?
