Try this. Go to the "C:\Windows\System32" folder and find the "mstsc.exe"
file. Right click on the file and select "Create shortcut". Move that
shortcut to the "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start
Menu\Programs\Accessories\Communications" folder. The system may tell you
that you need to make this short cut on the desktop. Answer yes, then simply
cut the shortcut from the desktop and paste in the Communications folder.
Rename the shortcut "Remote Desktop Connection". You also may need to be an
administrator to do this...

what?!!!!!! you're right! That's what the idiot might've been talking
about!!!!!!!

There is no communications tab though. There is a tab ctrl
panel..system..remote for the Remote Desktop Server.
Without that tab, i'm not sure how he'd run a remote desktop server.

If he meant communications folder, as you rightly assumed, then he
refers to the viewer, and he should know that he can run it just doing
start..run..mstsc <ENTER>. Only an amateur brings it up from the
start menu.

Your explanation was essentially a way of making a shortcut for a
program in the start menu.

It's likely that he knew how to do that, but didn't know that the
program mstsc.exe is on his machine, and didn't know the filename.
(or maybe it really isn't on his machine!).

You answered him correctly, but if he follows your answer, he'll still
be an idiot. I like to think some people can be corrected. So I
wouldn't give a polite answer that really treats them like idiots.
Unless they are 96 and couldn't care less. I find some people would
rather know that the solution presented, is how to make a shortcut for
a program in the start menu, and that it's amateurish to use it
anyway!

Tell me.
When you load up the remote desktop viewer/client, do you use the
shortcut?
start..programs..communications...
Or do you do start..run..mstsc <ENTER> ?

How do you load up notepad? from run? or going through the start menu?

i'm sure you don't do it the way you tell him to. Treat others how you
would want to be treated yourself. This is a techie newsgroup.

Don't worry. Most people answering are guilty of what you are guilty
of.
This is an issue of style, not knowledge. Style, being the keyword.

I've seen far worse in this newsgroup in the past. Keep up the
relatively great work!!!
