Remote Desktop Help

awilliams

Hello,
I am having a problem with getting remote desktop to work
correctly between two computers in my home network. The first computer
is a desktop that is connected to my router via a direct cable. The
second computer is a laptop that connects to the router wirelessly. The
desktop is running on Windows XP Pro and the laptop is running Windows
XP Media Center Edition. The problem is, I can connect just fine from
the desktop to the laptop, however, connecting from the laptop to the
desktop doesn't work all the time. I can get it to work only after
connecting via remote desktop from the desktop to the laptop then
disconnecting. After that, the laptop connects via remote desktop just
fine, until I reboot. In which case, it does not work anymore until I
do the initial remote desktop connection from the desktop again. Both
machines are able to ping each other. Any help would be greatly
appreaciated. Thanks

There was similar problem a week or so ago that was caused by the wireless
access point/router. Swapping in a new one fixed the problem. Any chance you
could borrow a friend or family members wireless access point/router and
test again?

Thanks for the replay Al. Unfortunatly, I don't have access to another
wireless router. If it's my router, that would really suck. Is there
anyway to determine if it's definitely a bad router or not? Again,
thanks for any advice or help you can provide.
