Remote Desktop default monitor

When I remote desktop into a Windows 2000 server, the
colors are set to 256. I need a higher resolution but can
not achieve this. The default monitor goes to RDPDD, no
matter what I do with the settings on the client end. I
have some idea that this is related to the server end, but
am unable to figure it out. Could use some advice.

You should check with the server's administrator. Some engineering/CAD-like software needs 256 colors to run on 2K is something
probably completely irrelevant to you that I can think of.
