I have a desktop PC which I control through XPs remote desktop feature
from my Laptop PC.

The desktop PC has speakers attached to it, and I want to control what
it plays through managing its Media Player through my laptop (eg remote
desktop)....

The problem is that when my desktop pc is controlled through remote
desktop, it doesn't output any sound through its speakers. I guess
this is due to remote desktop (the laptop) is taking over the
soundoutput..

Is there any way around this, eg to achieve it so that the laptop can
become the "remote" for what the desktop pc plays through its
speakers?

Thanks

The first thing I would check is in your Remote Desktop Connection app. If
you click the option button and then select the Local Resources tab you'll
have a few options for sound, video, disk drives, etc. The first one in the
list is sound and it defaults to bringing the sound to your computer. If you
change this to Leave at Remote Computer, then the sound should stay there and
play through the speakers as you'd expect.

Hope that helps.
