Remote desktop and automatic logon

Shiva

Hi,

I sometimes use the remote desktop facility to logon my computer. The
account that's being used requires a password, otherwise you cannot remotely
log on. But now I always have to enter a password when I turn on my
computer.
Isn't it possible to automatically logon when I turn my computer on while
still being able to use the remote desktop facility (and if you use remote
desktop a password must be entered for the account that is automatically
being logged on)?

Thanks in advance.

Run this command from a Command Prompt, then untick
the box that requires you to enter a password:

control userpasswords2

Hi,

Click start/run, type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and
click ok. In the user list, click on the user that you want to be the
default. Uncheck the box requiring a username and password, click apply/ok
and follow the prompts to set up a default logon.

Thanks a lot both Rick and Pegasus. I followed your instructions and now I'm
able to log on automatically. My account is still password protected so I
should be able to remotely control the computer (I'm not able to test this
right now).
BTW, I checked my account through: Start->Control Panel->User Accounts but
the information/dialog box displayed is *not* the same as the dialog box
appearing after typing "control userpasswords2". Can that dialog box be
accessed by the control panel?

Hi,

I use that process myself and logon remotely on a regualr basis, it will
work fine. As to your other question, no that is not accessible through the
control panel though it can be added, there is a tweak to do that here:

Add Control Userpasswords2 to the Control Panel (Line 1)

Thanks again, I now got an icon in the control panel. Great!
