Remote Control does not work correctly anymore

We have a Windows XP MCE running for a year now. A few months ago the remote
control started working differently as before. When you play a recorded
program and want to use fast forward >> or backward << nothing happens. It
is not the remote control that has this problem, since the keyboard reacts in
the same way. Does anyone have an idea how to correct this problem.
