PowerPoint XP remote control

How does the remote slide advance/retreat work? I assume
there's some software coupled with a USB connected receiver
controlled remotely via a RF signal? If that's the case,
I would also assume that the software is either hard
configured or can be customized to effect keyboard
actions remotely?

PowerPoint will manually advance or retreat slides via
the "space key" or "backspace" respectively. The mouse
only works on the forward/backward arrows on the
presenter's screen. Obviously, a remote operator
wouldn't be able to control the mouse position on the
presenter's screen.

Have I surmised all of this correctly?

Thanks,
Bill

Many remote controls have a "mouse" function similar to those on laptops,
quite fiddly though.

You can also use a wireless mouse to operate ppt. In tools>options>view
untick menus on right mouse click
The mouse buttons will now move forwards and backwards in the show and of
course you can use it as a mouse on a flat(ish) surface
