remote connection

I want to be able to access a computer remotely, but understand it needs XP
Pro. Can I upgrade from XP home to Pro without losing data or settings; and
do I need to pay the full upgrade price?

Both XP home and XP pro have remote assistance/access
capabilities .. there is no need to upgrade to XP Pro

My understanding is that the desktop from which I want to access files needs
to be on XP Pro - and this, I think, was confirmed on your referenced
website. Is there an easier way?
