Remote Assistance

L

Leereemi

I have used Windows Live Messenger to help family and friend in XP for a
long time.

I just purchased a new computer today with Vista Home Premium. Two people
tried to
Request Remote Assistance today but I could not connect to their XP
computers. I always
could connect to them with my XP computer. What needs to be fixed to make
this work?

Man this is frustrating!

1. Install Windows Live messenger (build 8.1.0178.00) on "both"
computers (latest build)

2. Turn off any pop-up blockers that are running on BOTH computers

3. Check the firewall settings if you are using a third party firewall

XP to XP there is no need to change the default settings for Remote
Assistance. What are the changes
attach (screenshot please) to the XP SP2 Firewall? Much appreciated.

If you are only using the XP firewall on each computer there is nothing to
worry about.

Use the same version of Live messenger on each computer and turn off all 3rd
party pop-up blockers. This includes what may be included in some internet
security suites such as McAfee and Norton/Symantec.

Hi Richard. I am using Vista, my family is still using XP. I need to now
how to configure
their firewalls to allow us to connect. We usually start off with voice
chat in Messenger, then
I get a "request remote assistance" from them. However, with Vista on my
system, connecting
is not happening to their XP systems. It was sooo easy before Vista! Grrrr

I have already stated that which helps and you have not confirmed that you
have checked on this. I have no problem doing remote assistance from XP to
Vista using the latest MSN Messenger Live. What versions are you and yours
using? Check!

You don't understand. XP remote assistance to a Vista machine works
perfectly. It does not work the other way around.
