Remote Administrator shutdown

Just installed XP Home. Trying to get the updates. I
know there's a patch for the remote administrator
shutdown. Is there any way to turn the remote admin. off
until I can obtain the patches? I can't keep the
computer online longer than a few minutes before it makes
me reboot. I'm on the dial up connection and have to re-
connect every time. It's getting frustrating. Any help
would be appreciated.
