Hi.

I need to remotely access a computer, but I am do not know most of the
products out there. The guy in my IT department recommended LogMeIn,
but I know that there has to be others out there. I just want to make
sure I'm not missing something. What do you all use?

Hi,

What's wrong with using Remote Desktop (it's included with XP Pro, but not
Home)?

Another option would be VNC:
http://www.realvnc.com/

Remote Desktop client is available on XP Home. You just can not set up a
"host" connection in Home (connect to.)

I've been doing a lot of remote connections. Here are a few that work well:

1) Remote Desktop -- Very fast connection to XP Pro/Windows Server. Will log
off user using the "remote" XP Pro console (monitor) since everything will be
sent to Remote Desktop client screen.

2) RealVNC -- The "original" VNC system. Not secured in transmission. No
file transfer www.realvnc.com

3) TightVNC -- Enhanced VNC with file transfer. Still not secured.
www.tightvnc.com

4) UltraVNC -- Another VNC version which contains most of RealVNC/TightVNC
features and offers Encrypted connections. www.ultraVNC.com

5) pcAnywhere -- Symantec product. Offers remote connections like VNC but
also offers remote printing. However, you must buy it since demo (???) only
good for 30 days.

Also, please note that most "spyware" utilities discover all VNC software and
label it as a "spyware threat" event though it must be installed.

do u want to access the computer on local network or by the internet ?
1st thing u should do that:
right click on my computer - properties - Remote , check the box on remote
DeskTop, now u can access this PC from anywhere " LAN or inetrnet " BUT u
should be knew the IP address from the PC.
Go To START- PROGRAMS-Accessories-Communications-Remote Desktop Connection
THEN put the IP for the PC u want to access.
