I apologise that i'm posting in a freeware newsgroup, none of these
programs are free, but you can test trials of them. I found them so
useful that I bought them. I have mentioned an alternative free piece
of software.
This is the most relevant newsgroup I could find to post this.

saythetime, calendarscope

saythetime gives reminders in a popup when you pass the mouse voer the
clock.. And it can speak the time when you click the clock.

calendarscope has a layout of the whole week, and you can add
appointments.

I use those 2. But if you need something free,

one thing similar to saythetime, - giving reminders when the mouse
passes a symbol. .but not saying the time, is a (free) firefox
addon/extension. Of course, that free firefox extension only works
within firefox.

saythetime is also known as " Say The Time "

There is absolutely no excuse for recommending commercial software here
as you have done. Your statement that this group is the "most relevant
newsgroup (you) could find to post" your message is totally untrue,
because this group is supposed to be for the discussion of freeware, not
commercial software.

Please resist the temptation to post such messages in the future.

I don't reply to trolls like Andy Mabbett or Doc (who uses sock puppets)
for instance. No adware, cdware, commercial software, crippleware,
demoware, nagware, PROmotionware, shareware, spyware, time-limited
software, trialware, viruses or warez for me, please.

What John said, but not as patiently spoken

You're just spamming your own software, any fool can see that.

they were each written by different people. neither of them myself.
But that's besides the point.

Though I did mention a free one there.

Could you suggest a newsgroup that would be more suitable?

look at it, it's terrible.

Perhaps. But you do get the idea about this ng. Best of luck promoting
the shareware and, if you're in need of any freeware or, find any...,
drop on by!

I will. I only mentioned these programs because I couldn't find any
free alternative. Closest was a FF addon.

oh, you're good "dave turner", you managed to fool my ISP into thinking
that I cross-posted, too.

Did you forge the usenet header when you pasted it in your email to
them?!

Did you tell them that I was advertising my own software too?

Maybe my ISP should tell your ISP that you're trouble.

I don't think it'll make much difference though. I'm sure you're a
"valued customer" - i.e. you're paying your monthly fee.

sorry, I meant to ask at the beginning of the post if it was you. It
was most likely either you, or "patient" John. I'm sure the
perpetuator will proudly admit to it.

Sunbird. Free & open source. But I prefer cybermatrix reminder, as it
does the job and nothing more, whereas sunbird is a very portly piece
of software.

I use those 2. But if you need something free,

well yeah, it is what this ng is about. Its the silliest place to spam,
because
a) people will post free equivalents of your $ware
b) people here are specifically not after $ware

hey frank, do you happen to have links?

There are lots and lots of genuine freeware timers. Personally, I
like and have got installed these (amongst many others)!

"Sound Break"
"1 time"
"Mr Egg Timer"
Karen's two timers

those timers are a different category. But since you mention them. My
favourite are these freeware ones- 1time, and also, the AleJenJes(as in
alex jennifer and jessica?) timer

Commenting on the freeware you mention-

cybermatrix doesn't remind you of appointments when you hover the mouse
over an icon in the taskbar.

also, it was a bit of a nuisance to test it - and thus to verify that
it works properly. Though by my test it did work properly. The
nuisance was in the testing, was that, it lets you specify xx seconds,
e.g. a reminder at 22:24:19 but when you save it, it resets to
22:24:00. Then it reminds you at 22:34:56 (end of the minute). That is
not a problem in regular practice. But is a problem when verifying and
getting comfortable with its operation. It's important to do so since
one may rely on software like this. Otherwise, i'd say it does what it
does very well. But it doesn't do much

perhaps you didn't read what I wrote? or didn't understand it.
If by "my software". you mean that which I wrote, then no, it's not
mine. It's software that I bought.

Since you mention free equivalents, perhaps you think you posted one?
and that that bothers me?

I'd be glad if you or anybody could post free equivalents. I looked but
didn't find other software matching my requirements.

I tested many pieces of freeware and shareware too. The best free
alternative to SayTheTime that I could find for the type of software I
was looking or, was a FREEWARE firefox extension. I now have the name
of it

https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1191/ It's called ReminderFox

If you're looking for the closest equivalent freeware, then that is as
good as I could find. Far closer than the freeware you mentioned.
Though ReminderFox still didn't satisfy my requirements.
For ReminderFox it's only ok for somebody who Always has a firefox
window up. And it doesn't speak the date &/ time. It doesn't show the
whole week either. So, didn't meet what I was looking for.
But they may be useful to somebody else

it's better not to top post.

For any software i've mentioned, in that first post, or the freeware I
mentioned since, I made what to google very obvious. Links are
superfluous, and very easy to find.

It's also useful to list good freeware from memory, without links
getting in the way. freeware is often available from a multitude of
links, links come and go.

Usenet is archived. And a lot of software - especially freeware
utilities, that were good a few years ago, are still good today.

If you desperately need links and can't find what to google, then you
may email me and I will google the obvious and email you back the 2 or
3 links.

piffle. . .

You're simply saving yourself a bit of effort at the expense of those
who are interested in the apps you recommend. IMO that's a *very* lame
attempt to justify sloth and indolence. ;)

Many programs share duplicate or very similar names. Both the program
name and the author's name and/or the home page URL are necessary to
uniquely identify a program.

FWIW there have been some heated discussions in ACF because the ONLY
information posted about *a* program was the name and the people who
responded posted about a different app. ;)

BTW, have you looked at this app:

Program: Multilingual Speaking Clock
Company: Lux Aeterna
Ware: (Liteware) (free)
http://www.lux-aeterna.com/

or

Program: SayTime 95
Company: EdgeMeal Software
Author: Ed Wilk
Ware: (Freeware) LFW (v 4.05)

I don't have a link -> a good chance for you to show me how easy it is
to find one. . . ;)

it hadnt occurred to me that could considered a genuine problem

Otherwise, i'd say it does what it
does very well.

If you use it more you'll find it doesnt. I'd like to find something
that does. CM is the only one I've found that takes times as well as
dates, what the developers were thinking when they created all those
other PIMs I dont know. But CM has 2 real flaws. The first is that very
occasionally it reminds on the wrong date! The 2nd is that the list of
events window is small, cant be expanded, and events cant easily be
reordered. Apart from those its perfect :)

But it doesn't do much

thank god for efficient apps. Sunbird otoh is a pita.

nice program.
the voice sounds a bit like the car in knightrider - a bit gay!
Nicely designed program. discretely hides in the taskbar.

it doesn't display the Day in the taskbar. It just leaves it to the
windows clock to display the time there.

not suprisingly, doesn't have a popup reminding of tasks when you hover
the mouse over it.

well, the material is there to google. But, it looks like that software
has died out. Unless somebody puts a link somewhere on the internet for
it!

Fortunately, "Ed Wilk" (the author of SayTime 95) is a google hit.
and he has some software called MyTime
http://www.geocities.com/edgemeal_software/

it's got a calendar but not a popup one! The calendar appears when you
want to add an alarm.
