Reminder for Tasks Doesn't Work

Using Windows XP and Outlook 2003. I enter tasks, set the reminder with the
checkmark in the box with the time and date (in the future) set, click save
and close, but they never come up and remind me! Yesterday I observed a
balloon in the lower right-hand side that said something to the effect that
"tasks were not functioning." Any help or clues on how to make this function
work would be greatly appreciated as I would like to use it often! Thank you
in advance.

Please come back with the exact message rather than "something to the effect
that". Or just google it yourself - that's a fast way to find old posts and
knowledge base articles about common problems.
