Remember Password??

W

Whit

Hi - I access a number of password protected websites (no, they ain't porn!!
<G>) and I usually check the "remember password" box to make life simpler.
It has worked fine until this week, when suddenly all the remembered
passwords were no longer remembered. I have re-entered them and life is back
to normal, but it worried me.

The only thing I did out of the ordinary was to run the hard disk error
checking utility, but I've done that in the past and don't recall losing the
passwords. The utility did not report any problems. Any thoughts on what may
have caused me to lose the passwords? Any indications that might be trouble
brewing?
Thanks,
Whit

The remember passwords are stored in cookies. If the cookies are deleted,
then the remember passwords are lost. You can use a third party program
like Roboform to remember your passwords.

The only way I know of that it could be done was through
Tools->Options->Content->AutoComplete. Here, you can
reset/clear all saved passwords.

First... congrats for having passwords backed up in some form or another <S>
Many users don't.

Did you install the latest Cumulative Security Update for IE6- KB832894?
That update has been known to erase stored passwords. It seems to not do it
in every case.

BINGO! - Thanks a bunch, Don. It happened after my last security update,
just never thought to put the two together. No backup on passwords? Now,
THAT'S scary!! Thanks again,
Whit
