transfers seem slow. Is 1 to 1.8 MB/sec slow for a wireless G
connection? I've already got the Performance and Reliability (ha!) pack
installed.

1.8MB/sec is nearly 16Mb/sec, which is pretty fast in my experience for a
wireless network connection. G is a max of 54mbps (and not full duplex
either). Depending on signal strength, overhead, who else is using the
connection, I think you're getting reasonably good speeds.
