reloaded office 2000, reloaded updates, outlook does not work

hard drive crashed, insatlled new drive. installed os, xp pro. installed
office 2000, all functions worked ie: excel, word, & outlook. downloaded
updates and installed updates both for xp pro and office. now outlook does
not work.
"Microsoft Outlook has incountered a problem and needs to close"

A few questions first, in order to troubleshoot:

1) Email environment: Exchange, POP3, etc.
2) Do you use a PST? What size is it?
3) Have you checked your application event viewer for any errors related to
Outlook and/or Office?
4) Are there any other errors/error numbers?
5) Have you deleted and recreated the profile?

6) Are you scanning incoming/outgoing email with antivirus? Try disabling
that, it won't compromise your security
7) How many firewalls are you running? If you're running a third party
firewall, check to see if you're also running the Windows firewall.
