Releasing DNS name of Network Card

Hello,
How do I clear what I believe is the DNS name of a NIC that has managed to
register itself via DHCP accidentally when it was meant to be setup with a
Static IP.
The DHCP registered the NIC with a number like x.x.x.200 and a name like
ABC, when what I really wanted was a static IP of x.x.x.10 and a name of
"ABC.XYZ".
I have since correctly configured with the Static details as above but now
when I try to ping the name ABC.XYZ it just shows "Request timed out" as it
tries to ping the wrongly assigned DHCP IP address.
However if I ping to the correct IP address it resolves & replies correctly.
Is there a way I can get the DNS or DHCP server to remove the incorrect entry?
Is this a WINS issue perhaps?
Does this have to be cleared from the Server side or can this be cleared
from the Client side?
Help appreciated.
Thanks.

Btw, I have experienced the same issue while setting up a mixture of Win2k
and Win2003 servers.
The network staff have already reserved the x.x.x.10 address as Static on
the DHCP server also.

open DNS and/or WIS manager to clean the record. you may do ipconfig /flushdns on the computer. For more and other information, go to http://howtonetworking.com.

Go into the MMC for the DNS Server find the thing in both the Forward Lookup
Zone and the Reverse Lookup Zone and simply delete the entries. They will
re-enter themselves with the correct IP# sometime later on their own.

I recommend following the same proceedure on the WINS Server if you have
one. This will get rid of incorrect Netbios Name mappings that may be
incorrect. It will also re-enter itself with the correct IP# later on its
own.

In both cases it will most likely work fine even without any entries in the
"interim" period befor those entries automatically recreate themselves.
