Relative hyperlinks in Word 2003 template

deb_dolittle

I have a Word 2003 template that I am trying to add a hyperlink to.
This template will be distributed throughout our dept and thus its path
will change, so I need a relative path for the hyperlink. The hyperlink
links to a sample output file of the completed template. It is always
located in the same directory as the template. Problem is when I open
the template as a document, it cannot find the file the hyperlink
points to. (It can find it when I open it as a template.) BTW, if it
matters, the completed document based on the template will NOT be saved
in the same directory as the template.

Any ideas as to how to solve this problem, since many people will be
using this template and its linked file from several unknown file
locations?

Thank you in advance.

Two possiblities spring to mind: you place this sample document in one
central place (Intranet), then the link may be absolute and all troubles
go away.

If that's not possible, I think you need a VBA solution: an AutoNew
macro firing when a new document based on the template is created,
pointing the hyperlink to the template folder, maybe? I'd jump into one
of the .vba newsgroups if you need help with that solution.
