relationships in split database

I split my database a few weeks ago. I want to add a new relationship
between two tables. When I view the relationships window in the Backend, all
my existing relationships have disappeared. Where are they stored? Is it
possible to add a new relationship, or am I stuck with the ones I have?

Thanks

All relationships must be added in the back-end. Those added in the
front-end merely facilitate Join creation in queries. To see all existing
relationships in the back-end, click on the Show-All Relationships button on
the toolbar.

When I open the back-end, and go to the Relationships window it is completely
empty. When I add in the tables, and click on the "Show All Relationships"
window, no relationships appear.
