related to blaster worm and recovery

I had both Win98 on C: and WinXP Pro on E:drive. I got
connected to the net a few days ago by broadband. Since
then, hell broke loose. First, it just kept restarting
without warnings, and some files got corrupted. Then Win98
refused to boot completely, it stopped after the splash
screen of win98 at the DOS view where it shows "completed
updating setup files, continuing to load windows". It
didn't load even after many tries including safe mode.

Then WinXP started its act. Many startup itmes did not
load, and sometimes the taskbar could not be used for
about 3 to 4 minutes after booting. Due to the computer
being restarted every now and then without warning some
more problems came up, like the PC restarting after one
minute prior warning and many programs acted strangely and
did not work. So i decided that since the system files
have been disturbed, i'll reinstall windows after clean
formatting my hard disk.

I had not realised that the blaster worm was the cause
untill my friend learned the symptoms of my PC before
formatting, and asked me to search the microsoft site.

The problem now, is: No version of Windows gets completely
installed on my computer. Win2000, XP stop during setup
while Win98 gets installed but stops after the splash
screen at the DOS view as i had described earlier.

Hence, I WANT A UTILITY THAT WORKS FROM MS DOS AND REMOVES
THE BLASTER WORM. It should work in DOS, should not
require windows environment, and effectively remove the
worm.

THANKS A LOTTT to whoever solves this problem as soon as
possible! You will be doing me a BIG, BIG favour.

Personally I think the system is so screwed-up trying to fix it is a no go.
You obviusly do not have much data on your machine, so i would reformat all
the hard drives/partiions etc and start by reinstalling everything from
scratch.

You may need to use a boot floppy to do the fomatting and then reformat
using XP file system later if you want to.

One other precautionary note - be very careful about which web sites you go
to before getting all your virus checkers and windows updates installed - it
is very easy to pick up something in the early stages of installation if you
are not careful.
