I'm about to reinstall my 7gb XP partition, which resides on a 200gb disk.
7gb is for Windows, the rest for my applications. The drive is a dynamic
disk. My dilemma is this:

Whenever I reinstall Windows, and delete my OS partition, the Windows
installer suddenly shows the -entire- 200gb drive as being unallocated. Is
there some way around this, so I don't lose my apps?

well if you are deleting your o/s partition, you will in any case have to
reinstall your apps.
The reigistry and other parts of the o/s drive will contain many entries and
files from your installed apps.
You can repair your installation, this should not impact on installed apps.

The problem is you are deleting a partition during the reinstall of
XP.......
If you wish to retain your settings you need to do a repair installation.
go thru the procedure as if you are doing a new install....do not
format....finally you will get to the screen that asks if you wish to repair
your present installation or install new.....pick the repair.
