reinstalling xp professional

How long does it take to reinstall xp (upgrade option)? I started the
reinstall process on 11 May at 10:30 am. It went to Preparaing installation
at about 11:00 am. It is not 12 May at 9:45 am and it is still on Preparing
installation.
The Progress bar is completely green.
My computer does not reboot by itself, but it does shut down by itself.
Should I manually shut the computer off and restart?

One does not repair a Windows XP installation by reinstalling
