ReInstalling XP Home??

I'm reinstalling XP Home on a Acer notebook computer and running into
problems. I started by using the CD's that came with the computer and
everything seemed to be going fine but upon reboot it will not boot XP. I
re-tried the disks several times. Anyway so I decided to use my XP Home CD
but when it comes time to enter the serial number I enter the number for the
notebook and I get the "Not valid Serial" error. What gives? Is the serial
for the Notebook specific to the recovery CD's from Acer?

P.S. All attempts to get help from Acer have failed. I can't get a response
to save my life.

The Product Key affixed to the notebook is OEM and may not work with CDs
from a different source.
Also if your Windows XP Home CD is retail, you will get that message.

Since your CDs are OEM, Acer is your only support, Microsoft is unable to
help with OEM.

Try cleaning the CDs and drive with appropriate CD cleaning tools.

I'm trying a fresh install with the ACER CDs again. I'll post the error
message when I get the chance.

WHen I finally got this re-installed the computer just keeps rebooting. It
does the count down and then starts to load Windows and "POW" reboots. Over
and Over and Over again.

Ever seen this?

A corrupted installation may cause that.
Were all peripherals such as printer, scanner etc disconnected?

I've gotten my hands on the system CD's from a friend I'll swap out the CD
that is giving me the trouble and see what happens.
