Reinstalling WinXP on a different hard drive

My first install of Win XP was flawless, but I decided I
needed to use my larger HD for "C" and began the
installation of Win XP. It made it to WIN XP Home Edition
Setup and gave this message:
Setup cannot find a previous version of WIN installed on
your computer (I am running WIN 98 SE on it).To continue,
setup needs to verify that you qualify to use this upgrade
product.
Please insert one of the following Windows product CDs
into the CD-Rom drive (A list follows with WinXP Home E
and Prof. being full versions.)
.. Press Enter
.. Press F3 to quit.

I tried both the Win Recovery CD which came with my
computer and the Win XP and pressed Enter. The same
message came up each time.
I finally went with F3. I'm back to running Win98 SE.

What is wrong and what can I do?

If all you have is the Win 98 recovery CD, you will need to restore 98SE to
the new hard drive and then run the XP install.
